When politicians refer to natural gas as a "clean" alternative to oil and coal, they seldom mention a commonly used technique called horizontal hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking.
But in New York, residents were concerned enough about the long-term environmental, health, and economic fallout of fracking that they convinced the state Senate to institute a moratorium on the practice. In a 48-9 bipartisan landslide, state leaders voted to prohibit fracking for nine months so they can evaluate the environmental and health impacts of the practice before deciding how to continue.
"It was absolutely the result of thousands of citizens weighing in with their senators,” said Katherine Nadeau, director of the Water and Natural Resources Program for Environmental Advocates of New York. “When that many people call, write, and show up, it gets results. The other side was spending obscene amounts of money, but the more compelling argument was that there have been serious tragic repercussions to drilling."

look, I don't care who wants to put stores or offices in a place the shit was already there before. I really fuckin don't
The 'muslim center' would be going where an old Burlington Coat Factory is. Its not like they're tearing down one kind of church to put up another. Last I checked BCF wasn't any kind of a religious icon so wtf right?

"Its too close to ground zero" seems to be the rally cry. Muslims build their mosques on conquered lands blah blah blah

How about if one business comes in and takes over after one leaves I DON'T GIVE A FLYING FUCK.
Religious bullshit comes into the picture THEN I give a fuck cuz I happen to firmly believe that ALL churches and religious centers should pay property tax. If people want to keep their place o faith in their community then they should donate and pay the property tax on the scam center. It's bullshit for everyone in the community NOT affiliated with that church to have to pay higher property taxes themselves because some religious thing is getting a free ride.
There are 4 such places just in my tiny town that us sucker taxpayers are getting screwed into paying for. Its fuckin bullshit. There aren't enough people in this town to fill them and we're eating around $20,000 a year or more cuz these fuckin places dun pay no property tax. Seriously yo, wtf is up with that shit? As someone not affiliated with any of the 4 in town, as someone disgusted by religion, it pisses me off that part of my cost of living is supporting having these deadbeat places sittin around.
I don't wanna play into this holy war crap ppl both christian and muslim are dieing (literally) to start with each other. FUCK THAT SHIT. Keep your primitive hate hard on in your pants assholes.

If anyone can remember the old bulletin board software wars from years ago, you would remember an old major player called ikonboard. This software was a phpBB, UBB and vBulletin rival back in the day. But after they got purchased by a bigger company they lost alot of their users when the old developers of ikonboard broke away and created invision power board. Shortly after ikonboard became pretty obsolete.

Now the same thing is happening with vBulletin. vBulletin was purchased by Internet Brands and became more commercial and money hungry. The main developers of vB left the company and just recently announced that they are making a new forum software called xenforo. Which can be found at http://xenforo.com/

Could this possibly be history repeating itself? Will xenforo replace vbulletin in the near future just like invision power board replaced ikonboard? Only time will tell.

big mess and lotsa ppl employed

heres a possible solution

its the raised bed irrigation system they used in Tiwanaku over a thousand yrs ago. Elevation 12415 feet, 3820 meters
Tiwanaku’s location between the lake and dry highlands provided key resources of fish, wild birds, plants, and herding grounds for camelidae, particularly llamas.[6] The Titicaca Basin is the most productive environment in the area with predictable and abundant rainfall, which the Tiwanaku culture learned to harness and use in their farming. As one goes further east, the Altiplano is an area of very dry arid land.[1] The high altitude Titicaca Basin required the development of a distinctive farming technique known as "flooded-raised field" agriculture (suka kollus). They comprised a significant percentage of the agriculture in the region, along with irrigated fields, pasture, terraced fields and qochas (artificial ponds)[1] farming. Artificially raised planting mounds are separated by shallow canals filled with water. The canals supply moisture for growing crops, but they also absorb heat from solar radiation during the day. This heat is gradually emitted during the bitterly cold nights that often produce frost, endemic to the region, providing thermal insulation. Traces of landscape management were also found in the Llanos de Moxos region (Amazonian food plains of the Moxos).[7] Over time, the canals also were used to farm edible fish, and the resulting canal sludge was dredged for fertilizer. The fields grew to cover nearly the entire surface of the lake[citation needed] and although they were not uniform in size or shape, all had the same primary function.[7]
Though labor-intensive, suka kollus produce impressive yields. While traditional agriculture in the region typically yields 2.4 metric tons of potatoes per hectare, and modern agriculture (with artificial fertilizers and pesticides) yields about 14.5 metric tons per hectare, suka kollu agriculture yields an average of 21 tons per hectare.[1]
Significantly, the experimental fields recreated in the 1980s by University of Chicago´s Alan Kolata and Oswaldo Rivera[8] suffered only a 10% decrease in production following a 1988 freeze that killed 70-90% of the rest of the region's production. This kind of protection against killing frosts in an agrarian civilization is an invaluable asset. For these reasons, the importance of suka kollus cannot be overstated.

we could totally recreate this in these places that have been blown to hell by big coal. instead of mining they'd be farming. If they want to stay in the energy industry they could produce biofuels. They could prolly get huge yields. John Deer will get to make some spiffy new planters and harvesters. more jobs, more money flowing....

I grew up in a small town that was 99.9% white and chock full of racists.
These were the people that wanted us little white children to be afraid -very afraid- of the scary black people; they'd kill us all don't ya know.
I always felt unsettled listening to the rhetoric; not because I was afraid some dark boogieman was going to jump out of the bushes and get me, but more along the lines of seeing the people responsible for the safety and well being of my community with faces distorted with anger and disgust as horrible things poured out of their mouths.
In time I came to understand more. In a way the racists are afraid of themselves. The majority of serial killers, those who kill for sport and enjoyment, are predominantly white males in their 30's. The racists (much like the catholics) can't and don't throw one of their own under the bus no matter the crimes they've committed so they displace those deep down feelings of horror they refuse to recognize onto someone else, someone much less like themselves.
Perhaps racism is just a sign of mental illness? Denial aint just a river in Egypt.

Ingredients:

- 1 cup corn oil (or vegetable oil)
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons dijon mustard
- 3 tablespoon worcester sauce
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 videlia onion sliced
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar

Instructions:

1) Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl.

2) Rinse off two beef chuck steaks (or other cuts) and pat lighty with paper towels to take off some of the excess water.

3) Put your steaks in a bowl or in large ziplock bags and pour the marinade over the steaks. Flip the steaks a bit to make sure they are fully covered. Then either seal your ziplock bags or cover your bowl and refrigerate your steaks for at least 5 hours.

4) Cook your steak. I cooked mine at a high temperature on the grill for about 8 minutes or so. If you grill yours, be careful if you pour the leftover marinade on them, the marinade has a tendency to flare up some strong flames.

(The woman's plate, she likes hers well, well done.)

The steaks turned out quite tender for a beef chuck. There was still a little bit of chew to it, but not nearly as tough without marinade. If anything, let those steaks marinade over night or for 12 hours.

To be a beast is perhaps bearable, although the man who has become one will surely pay hell's own price in the end, but what if you should gain your object? What if you should, heartless, actually storm the Dark Tower and win it? if there is naught but darkness in your heart, what could you do except degenerate from beast to monster? To gain one's object as a beast would only be bitterly comic, like giving a magnifying glass to an elephaunt. But to gain one's object as a monster...
To pay hell is one thing. But do you want to own it?
People get mad all the time in Washington. NOT usually on the Hill though; the tradition of "civility" (however phony) is too ingrained. But Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner of Rockaway, Queens, enraged over a Repubican maneuver that prevented a vote on financial aid for 9/11 first responders who are really sick, put all that gentility aside. Since he was a huge advocate for single payer in the health care debate, he has some healthcare chops. Take a look - is this appropriate? (Full disclosure: I loved it.)

The miles were at 4928 for it's first oil change and tire rotation! Because this is a new car I'm only going to use full synthetic oil for the life of the vehicle to make sure the engine lasts as long as possible. :teethglint:

The dealership also finished one more pedal recall that I wasn't aware of. He told me to disregard the letter I'll get in the mail this week because I'll already have it done.

On a side note, the discount card I bought at the dealership for $200 when I bought the car is going to pay for itself pretty quick. It already saved me $100 off the rust proofing job and all full synthetic oil changes get $25 off and tire rotations are $13 off. It was only $42 yesterday. For the price of the oil and the price of the oil filter, the oil job is pretty much done for the same price it would cost me to do it myself, but I don't have to! ahha. My tools will be sitting gathering dust for quite a while now.

they didn't want to give up their slaves
they didn't want their women to vote
they didn't want to share their lunch counter with someone with darker skin then theirs
they started a war on 'drugs' ie our citizens to lock up the poor and profit off of their incarceration.
they let corporations trash the environment and the economy giving us special gifts like cancer asthma diabetes and the rapid decline of the middle class
One hand poisons us and the other offers the pharmaceutical remedy at cost
they lead us into wars that cull the herd of young upwardly mobile men and women for their profit
they are still abusing people with darker skin; Mexicans and Arabs
they persecute those that don't believe in their obscene religions
they hate progressives and use liberal like its a dirty word
they oppress the civil rights of homosexuals
they despise the poor

We the people have fought these cocksuckers in the past and won. We the people continue to fight against them every day

I raised my children free from the idiocy of religions. I taught them that all people deserve the same rights. I taught them we all share this one world, to stand up for that which cannot speak for itself, oceans forests animals.
I have become doubtful that I will live to see the end of the miserable old white dudes reign of terror in my country. Hopefully my kids will live in a free and equal society.

drug testing for public assistance

No I do not support drug testing for persons receiving any form of goverment assistance and here are my reasons why:

Often the people receiving assistance have children. It is flat out wrong to deny a child food, medical care, or a roof over their head because a parent has a substance abuse problem.

People often use substance (booze and weed mostly) to self medicate for depression and/or anxiety. Choking down a pharmy cocktail 2 or 3 times a day isn't for everybody. Pharmaceuticals can be costly addictive and they carry some unpleasant side effects.

You cannot get a substance abuser to give up a substance because you want them to. Their body and thus their brain has become accustom to dosing on these substances. They wont quit until they are ready and attempts to force the issue mostly end badly.

There are a lot of people underemployed getting some assistance (mostly food stamps). Their employer will decide if they are drug tested or not to perform the duties of their job safely.

Drug testing is not free. If you want millions of people pissing in cups once a month how do you intend to pay for all of that medical service?

maybe instead of giving people down on their luck and in need of some help to get by even more shit we should concern ourselves with the billions in profit companies dicking us all over, ne?
:bingo:

It was 1989 when 2 things happened; 1 I graduated from high school and was finally able to GTFO and away from the assholes that surrounded me 5 days a week and 2 a drunkard oil tanker captain grounded the Exxon Valdez and spilled oil into the pristine waters of Prince William Sound.

Its been 20 years and I've seen some of the the long term damage the Valdez spill has done to the environment.
I've seen the way Exxon fought compensating the families whose lives were wrecked when their source of income was devastated. Some of the original plaintiffs died before the final ruling was handed down by the Supreme Court; they let Exxon off lightly to say the least.
I've seen the obscene amount of money, billions in profit make Exxon a mega rich superpower.
I've seen deregulation in favor the big money companies putting people, the economy and the environment at risk.
I've seen the Supreme Court tell big money companies they can contribute as much as they want to a political campaign.
I've seen more and more territory opened up for oil and gas drilling.
I'm at ground zero in the Marcellus shale drilling for gas projects. They took away our wells and made everyone get on public water.
I've gardened the same spot for 10 years and I've seen the weather here change.

Homicidal greed is large and in charge. will people ever wake the fuck up and do something about it
