View Full Version : My electricity usage went up? Plus I'm having a problem with HUD.

I usually pay the rent on time, but didn't pay yet this time. I have to get my checks copied for HUD. Not only that, but I was told my electric usage has doubled.

It was first blamed on the heat. And I have been using the big coil in my room more. But from what I remember it runs on gas. It sucks anyway because if left on it makes the apartment too hot. And if left off the apartment partly becomes cold. I'm going to leave it off just in case.

The 2nd most likely is there's a 100 Watt Light bulb outside my apartment that was constantly left on. The neighbor uses it more than me. And someone had been using the 40 Watt on the outside stairs and not turning that one off. I'm pretty sure both are connected to my electric going up.

I'll be changing them once I get this whole check thing with HUD done. I have too little of cash in the bank to do it now. But I'm upset with the fact this is the 1st time I didn't pay the rent ASAP. If I didn't have to deal with HUD I'd have both problems solved right now.

space heaters are electricity hogs. can you cut down to using it just a few hours a day? switching over to compact florescent bulbs will save you a lot of energy too.

Yeah, pay a little extra to buy eco-friendly bulbs that consume less electricity.

I don't think they're space heaters. All 3 of them are these metal things with a knob on each, built into the floor. All of my light bulbs inside my apartment are florescent. The only ones that aren't are the 2 outside my apartment that might be connected to my electric.

try turning your PC and all electric devices off when your sleeping. I could never understand why people keep their PCs on overnight when their not being used for anything.

Sounds like baseboard heaters and they use electricity. Being winter now and baseboard heaters or any electric space heaters will increase your electric bill quite a bit. I don't know if you know or not, but I'll give a little advice about electric bills.. The best way to offset the more expensive cost of winter living is to call up your electric company and get on a budget plan. they'll figure out your average yearly electric cost and charge you a single price on a month to month basis as opposed to being charged exactly for what you use. you'll pay a bit more during the summer compared to your actual electric usage, but you'll pay less during the winter so it works out pretty good. my electric usage is actually less than what they expected so I'll probably get a credit of $50 in January.

I completely forgot to state yesterday that my problem with HUD is over & I finally got florescent light bulbs for the 2 lights outside my apartment.

I haven't needed or wanted to turn on the 3rd one. The colder it gets outside the hotter these things get inside. Usually before & after winter it's the coldest in my apartment. If it gets cold enough outside I'll have to turn another one off.
