lol, thats the only reason I let myself lose in Space Invaders at 80,000 points. I was getting extremely bored (I could of easily broke 100,000+ points otherwise).

That's what happens every time. You can kill him with the holy grail-type weapon, but it doesn't change anything except that he disappears.

Hmm. And a lot of times scores won't be submitted--an error message will pop up, especially after playing a game for long enough, that the score wasn't submitted and won't be counted. I just got 36,000 something on Tetris and got the error message, so my score still says 14,000 whatever. Sort of frustrating if you've put a lot of effort into getting a high score on a game. =\

I don't really thoroughly test them before I add them and some just screw up. If the scoring messes up repeatedly, take that into consideration when you rate a game. I'll take off low rated games in a couple weeks.

The SQL that shows up from time to time occurs, because your login session for the forum has expired. You have two options.

1. Login through the forum with the "Remember Me?" option checked.

2. When you get the error, open up another tab to the forums and login. Go back to the tab with the error and click the refresh button. Click the yes button to resubmit the postdata and everything should be fine.

I did both methods successfully.

Booo, I was wondering why my Space Invaders score was lowered.

And GG you need to set the controls for Street Fighter otherwise you won't be able to fight (I tried every combination of keys and none worked when I first tried playing)

The default controls for street fighter are the arrow keys for moving, and the num-pad keys for punches and kicks.. buttons 1-4 I think.. but yes, change the settings because its set for "Hard" by default, it kicks my ass every time. -_- btw, how the hell do you get a score on that game? do you have to beat it? O_o;;

Why are the games showing two separate high scores now? Like, the top score in the box and then the top score on the list can be the same person, but different scores. I think that messes up the top score for that person whenever they're beat--they lose their boxed score completely. Example--I had 8,000 or 9,000 something in Blasterman listed in the top box with the avatar, GG beat that (good job :) ), so now my highscore listed is 6,000 whatever, actually my 2nd best score--instead of the 8,000+ one. Does that make sense? It's like that on all the games, though.

It's mentioned in that link Sledge posted. To keep people interested and competition up they implemented something that decays you're high score to make it easier for others to beat it. What you're seeing is the score you used to have and the score that it decayed too over a certain amount of time (I think a week). Thats what I got from reading the info in the link.

yeah, strider pretty much summed it up. To keep it competitive.. I figured it is better to at least keep the games showing a slightly lowered high score than to auto-prune all scores. I guess on other forums, members have maxed out just about every high score for every game leaving nobody with any possible hope of ever winning their name on the arcade champ screen.. so then when they prune the scores, people get pissed because their scores were erased. So the next best option is to lower the scores once or twice a month by a small percentage to give everyone that possibility of winning eventually and to make the champs have to keep playing to keep their champ spots.

Hmm. I guess I just feel like as long as the scores aren't maxed out, the higher high scores keep it competitive and challenging. Plus, it's more rewarding to know you've unseated the real high score as opposed to just getting your name up there because the other scores were purposely lowered.
*shrug* I work so much these days that I only get to come on about once a week, so it's just disappointing that any of the scores I worked for will be gone the next time I get online, simply in the name of 'fairness'. I understand the problem, I just wonder if there isn't a better solution.

Yeah I was disappointed with that and the basic system where if Mr. A matches Mr. B's score, Mr. A is on top of the charts instead of the original top scorer. Plus there are still a few games where you can't ADD your score to, like I think Contra II or the Snow Field Contra or Street Fighter (if you're undefeated).

I actually have a reliable solution to this. Whenever a game gives me that 'your score wasn't submitted error', I leave that error screen alone, open a new tab for the forums, make sure I'm logged in, go to the arcade and then click to play that exact same game. Once it loads up, I go back to that error screen, hit refresh and it pops up with that 'resubmit post data' box, click ok and my score gets submitted with no problem. I've got it to save my score everytime I get that error now. and it looks like it will give me that error randomly whenever I have any tabs open or especially if I loaded a couple games at the same time. Like the other day I opened prince of persia and shuriken challenge at the same time. I have my speakers off so loading a couple games doesn't effect my game play, but I realized whenever I open a couple games like that my score will never save right. and for games that auto refresh and submit your score, just don't open multiple game windows or tabs when you play, because it doesn't have a 'refresh and click ok to reload postdata' option. you'll just be screwed out of a score.

I'm assuming its a session thing, like when you load two games, the second one that loads cuts off your connection to the first game, so when you try to save the score from that first game, its trying to submit the score to the second game, it then notices the error and blocks the score hacking attempt.. or something like that. at least thats my understanding of it.

Squirrel Escape has a stage you can past. It has two baddies shooting lightning bolts, what looks like a teleporter. Even when the second device appeared, there was nothing I could do.

Waitress is a rip off Diner Dash, Jungle Jiggy is a DDR game and the Sonic game looks like a complete Sonic game and not just a couple stages (I could be wrong tho).

I have an arcade question. How come the games have a Highscore and also and "all time highest score". Are the scores erased every now and then or what?

The scores are auto decreased every 4th of the month (I think its set for the fourth). The "all time highest score" is just what it says, the highest score ever achieved on that particular game. While all scores auto decrease to make the games more competitive the "all time highest score" does not.

Ooh, that makes it interesting. I've just been trying to beat the High Score. Guess I should have been checking the all time high scores. ;)
