I'm ready to get another one-on-one story line going. Any takers?
Mathias
June 10th, 2007, 08:44 PM
Hum de hum. Wow, no one's interested? You just have to post a couple of paragraphs once every week or two.
You can just tell me what you would like to do and I'll write it for you. You don't have to write pages like HK and me. A couple paragraphs is all it takes.
All right now, I'm laying on the peer pressure now. Come on, you know you want to. :highfive:

You must answer me these questions three!
Question the first! Is there like a billion pages of back-story that's already existing that we'd have to read through?
Question the second! What's the genre?
Question the third! I... There isn't one, I was just ripping off the Simpson's :p

Fly, dirty bridge-keeper of death, fly!
Answer to question 1...
No backstory really. We'll start something new for the most part. I've got a one to two page synopsis of the campaign area listed in the Rookie forum, but that's mostly for me. I'll reveal character knowledge as we go through the game, and you get to make up stuff along the way. I have some simple rules, but we can go into that later. We'll play with new NPCs of course.
Answer to question 2...
Sword and Sorcery. If you've read anything in the Rookie forum posts, you'll get a flavor of the genre. It's mostly sword right now, but that will change very shortly. I like starting characters at low level with little history and ability, so we can develop the personality and the scenerio as we go along. I have a small outline in my head, but I keep it flexible based upon your responses.
If you prefer a different genre, I"m willing to accomodate. My knowledge of other genres is limited, so we'll have to work together. I don't mind PMs and I encourage editting your posts to correct errors and add more details.
Answer to question 3...
Really, I don't have an answer. Blue...no green. Ah!!!
Wolflord
June 12th, 2007, 09:34 PM
well, I'd actually much prefer sword and sorcery to anything else, and I read *some* of the stuff you had read, and it seems exciting enough. I'm in, and as long as I remember to check the forum I'll probably post something once every couple days, or whenever is best.

Sounds good. I'm a quick thinker and can make a story out of anything. Is there any particular type of adventure that you would like to write with me, or would you like me to just start one up?
Wolflord
June 13th, 2007, 09:06 PM
I'm pretty flexible. Just think up something that you'd like to do, and I'll roll along with it. It'll be fun.

Okay, I'm going to start you both on different story lines. Depending on how things go and with timing issues, I might have a couple crossovers between Bluecloak stories. They won't happen for a while, but I'll lay down hints every once in a while.
I already PM'd Godgrave a story idea, so I'm going to get it started first. Soon after, and I mean within a day or two, I'll get the Wolflord's started.
I'm going to cut off the rolecall for main characters now. Once these stories get going, I'll see if I have the time to add anymore. If anyone would like to audition for a side kick, I may have a couple openings...:haha:

I'm curious about a couple things. Are all Bluecloak's following the same leader? Is their any animosity in the guild itself? Say like... Groups vying for power? Is there ever any fighting between them? And finally, do mine, HK's, and GG's story's all take place in the same universe (ie. If I drew a map could it apply for all of the stories). I know that's kind of a lot of questions, and could give away important details, but that's just what I'm curious about ;)

Adamar kinda has this thing against the human warrior Merlias..well he has a thing against Adamar who is half-elf lord and son of a very well know Blade Dancer named Aramil. I played on that with my next piece.

June 16th, 2007, 09:15 PM
Wow, those few questions took me a long time to answer. They may seem simple, but there was a lot involved. If I left a few things in the air, I probably did it on purpose. I don't want to give too much away after all. ;) If you want more detail, I'm pleased to answer any additional questions you may have. Well, it took me a while to write this, so I'll try to get started on the stories tomorrow.
I'm curious about a couple things. Are all Bluecloak's following the same leader?
Wrenton Bluecloak is a retired adventuring wizard and is the originator of the Bluecloaks as a Mercenary's guild. Almost a decade later, shortly after routing the legion of Orpheus, he diversified the Bluecloaks into an Adventurer's guild as well. The Bluecloaks are very interested in discovering the hoard of Orpheus that has escaped them to date.
Is their any animosity in the guild itself? Say like... Groups vying for power?
Each large town within the nation of Beltfor has a charter available and usually a base of operations of sorts. Some of these are no more than a retired mercenary who recounts his long campaign and offers discounts at the local inn, and a few supplies he may have on hand. Others operate as the right hand of the local leader for good or ill.
Is there ever any fighting between them?
The guild as a whole is Lawful Neutral in alignment. This means they follow the laws of the town, country, and local leaders, but never over those of the guild or it's interests. As with all guilds, they're out to make money and look out for themselves and they're interests first.
Each large town as mentioned above is a franchise or branch of the guild. Basically, that could mean one branch does what it can for the best interest of the people (Lawful Good), while another could serve as the hired thugs of a small time tyrant (Lawful Evil), with all the possibilities in between. Other than the taxes paid to the headquarters an by abiding the laws passed down, each branch is fairly independent.
This kills me. Imagine the Bluecloaks headquarters as Corporate McDonalds. There are some McDonalds restaurants owned by the Corporate company, but most are independently owned by franchises. You could have two down the street from each other and though they look the same, the quality of the food and service easily varies between them. Okay, I think you got beef of it.
There is infighting, but it is mostly political. Like the Catholic church, there is the equivalence of an excommunication decreed by the headquarters. In extreme cases, bounties are placed upon the head of a member, and sometimes an entire branch. Reparations are made to the people who suffered under them. There are several of these branches who have allied with tyrants, to the great dismay of the guild.
And finally, do mine, HK's, and GG's story's all take place in the same universe (ie. If I drew a map could it apply for all of the stories). I know that's kind of a lot of questions, and could give away important details, but that's just what I'm curious about ;)
All three stories are being run through the same timeline. I will not give dates, or be too specific with how many days something took, to avoid time line discrepencies. I do plan on tying in the stories here and there, so you may want to stay current with the other stories.
There is currently a campaign log post in the "Rebirth of Orpheus" thread, but I have asked Sledgstone to move it to a new thread called "Bluecloak's Campaign Log".
Eventually all of these and relavent posts will also be copied to my website. Ancientclan will eventually archive these posts, and I would like to keep them up and available for all to see. If any of you have a problem with this, please let me know.

How long does it take me to develop the idea of what to write for one of my story posts? (Roughly 1-2 pages)
I normally spend no more than half an hour, split into two minute sparks throughout the day or two before I write the post.
How much of the story is set in stone, before I write the post? (Roughly 1-2 pages)
A good idea of how the post should start, for about 1 to 2 paragraphs. A general idea of how the post should end and lead on to the next PC post, though this has been known to change. The middle is usually fairly blurry, with just a few important actions that I want to happen.
Though I have an idea of how the characters will react to my ideas, I do not write them into a corner where they cannot develop. I lay down a foundation for the characters personality and run with it. Most of the time, they'll do as you expect, but sometimes they surprise even me.
How long does it take me to write one of my story posts? (Roughly 1-2 pages)
About 3 hours, all in one sitting.
Wolflord
June 18th, 2007, 11:53 PM
That's much longer then I expected O_o
Also, I was actually being serious when I said take your time. Given the choice between a well thought out, well written story or something you wrote in 20 minutes just to get it out... Guess which one I'd pick?
I know you'll come up with something cool. It's worth the wait. Plus you're not a punk-teenager with no responsibilities :p

Wife of Mathias here... I'll have to get my own name here one of these days... anyhow...
I like ghost hunters because they go into detail on how they capture voices and movements, and such. There is another show called A Haunting on the Discovery channel and that is freaky. It tells the story of a couple whose house has been visited by ghosts, usually violent ghosts. The people retell the story and the discovery channel "adds in the ghosts", so that the viewing audience can see what took place. I get goosebumps when a ghost all of a sudden jumps onto the screen. The rest of the story tells how the people got rid of the ghosts. It is pretty neat, though not as scientific as Ghost Hunters.

No rush. Take your time. We want quality stories after all. I only have time to post one or two story posts a week, so there's no rush. I'd like to cycle my posts through each story, but that all depends on everyones schedule. HK's posting about once every two to three weeks, so I figured I could easily manage three stories with that kind of schedule.
Do you like the conspiracy thread? If not, we can go a different route.
How about you Godgrave? Do you like your story? Are you just mulling over the idea before you post. No rush, just checking in to make sure you didn't forget about us! ;)

Wolflord
July 9th, 2007, 03:24 PM
hehe I should be putting more dialogue in my stories, I just don't like it. The way it plays out in my mind nothing is spoken, everything just sort of happens... The only things that are said are very dramatic one-liners and stuff.
Mathias
July 9th, 2007, 08:17 PM
Sounds very Army of Darkness of you. Or was it Doom and Duke Nukem'. Hmm, oh well. :)
I never used a lot of dialog at first in my writing. I just said, they talked about this and that, and this was the emotional and physical consequences of. I've learned that a character's personality and behaviors can be better portrayed through spoken dialog. Of course, the best stories in the world have been done both ways, so kudos to us!

That's not a big problem, I'm with you on that. Of course you don't have HK's problem. Her best ideas come in her dreams, so when she has writer's block, she has to wait until the next day. I'm tempted to send her some sleeping pills, because I like her stories. :meh:
HKofsesshoumaru
July 24th, 2007, 07:19 PM
*Laughs* OMG! I'm honored! I do have sleeping pills, kinda... called Seroquel. I get it for anxiety which causes me not to sleep. $875 a month with no insurance..so I am switching that since my insurance ended and I have nightmares I cannot wake up from. NO JOKE! It is a serious side effect. For those who don't know: If you cannot wake up from a nightmare it can mess with your psych. Anywhoo..But I have vivid dreams and sometimes they can be bad. Lately (This is gonna sound weird) I have been dreaming up stuff for my story. Rather vivid too. Last week I had this dream about my half elf having a dream. I was in his head seeing his nightmares and I woke up as him all freaking out. The crazy thing is ( and Mathias u might find this REALLY funny) is I was staring at Merlais (what in my head I see him to be) looking at me like 'WTF bad dream or something?' WEIRD! It was like I swaped bodies with Adamar and stepped inside his head. Crazy huh? It broke my writers block, so I was able to lay out my scenes. My boyfriend got a good laugh as I was in the living room laying out the scene and then running it by him with my adjustments. Think of that commercial for " On the lot". Yeah, I'm a crazy red headed girl, what can I say?! BUT I write some cool stories huh!?

July 25th, 2007, 10:21 PM
OMG! If it's not bad enough my BF and I can share nightmares, now he is swaping bodies with Adamar. I was whining today on how once again I flipped my whole thing around having this image of a wood fairy.\ Bf and I argued over if sprites are more full of mischief than fairies. I think back on the fairy in LEGEND. I was complaining that my poor Adamar has been stuck in the same spot for weeks since I can't make up my mind. My bf rubbed his eyes and complained " I keep having this dream that I am wondering in this forest, one I have never seen ( his dad works for the forest service in CA) , and cannot find/track what I am looking for. When I explained that it might reflect on my half elf he made the suggestion that I needed to make up my mind because he was getting tired of ' walking around lost in the woods". Funny huh?
Oh yeah ,and who is more likely to try and kiss a man to enchant him to sleep? A sprite OR a Fairy? Just Curious...
Mathias

I don't know which, but most men would do anything any woman asked him to do for a kiss. ;)

Well it's not really my school that's retarded so much as my mom. Also, I'm doing summer school, and each day of summer school is like 5 days of regular school... If I stayed home today I would have missed 2 tests, and about an hour's worth of exam prep. Godgrave is a workaholic who is desperately in need of a vacation. When Godgrave has more free time after they hire more help, ha, we'll start another story for him.
Which means, rolecall! Anyone interested in roleplaying the storyline "A Coldspray in Hell" with me? If so, I'll take applicants here for the next week or two. We'll see who has the guts to duke it out with me. ;) If we get more than one, we'll see which character you guys write up fits best in the story. If multiple characters are done well, we may try a main character with a sidekick, or possibly have more stories started. Good for you, hectic for me. That's okay, I like to write!
Basically, I'm asking that you post a continuation of the storyline from your character's perspective about once every two weeks after I return the post, usually within a week. Preferably, we'd like to see about a page, but less is allowed, especially while you try to figure things out. Check out some of the other stories written to date by HK and Wolflord for some wonderful examples.
So, who wants to be a roleplayer?

Teaser time.
1. We are officially halfway through the first adventure of our campaign. I'm not going to tell you how many adventures are in the campaign, because it's a secret...even to me. :p
2. Everything you might have assumed about the adventures are about to flip-flop with plot twists. X'D
3. At the end of the adventure, there will be a few cross-over posts that will make your blood pump!
Now if I can get someone to join in the "A Coldspray to Hell" we might even be able to sneak in a threeway. Ahem, an interactive post between all three of the PCs. So, come on, who's interested?!

Yeah, Mathias is crazy and just wanted me to write something. He's glad that he finally got through some of my writer's block, I've only had it for five years... Slowly getting back into the hang of things. Mostly trying to proof read a lot of his work. But he's learning.
Hope you enjoy the stories and please critic my work, good or bad. After all it is the only way to learn.

"Just get it done when you can." Mathias squeaked as he was walking out of the room. He's got a bad sore throat and can hardly speak. HEEHEEHEE :)

Good post HK! I'll try to get my reply up this weekend or next.
Couple points came up in the story I need to clarify as DM/Moderator.
1. Adamar is immune to the fairy's poison and spells. How did that happen?
For roleplaying the relationship between Arethusa and Adamar further, I would like you develop a sound reason for this immunity (not hereditary or race!). I would strongly suggest that the immunity is with her and no other fairies. Long-term exposure to her, a spell cast upon your behalf, a potion created with a sprig of her hair that you earned from some witch (I like that one! :) ). Whatever, please come up with some background that backs this fact up. Doesn't need to be explained in the story now, but I WILL make you include this later. :meh:
2. Arethusa the fairy seems to be the same size as Adamar, a medium sized half-elf.
I need to define Arethusa in game terms, so we can better roleplay her abilities, describe her, and know her limitations. No creature is exactly how they are described in a resource and we can fudge some of the facts easily enough. i just want to keep it close.
She kind of sounds like a sprite, specifically a small Pixie, about the size of a halfling or gnome. I'll do more research later to see if I can find any other stats that better fit this fey. No reason the pixie can't take a level of sorcerer to learn enlarge person to make her medium sized at appropriate times.

3. Arethusa said her realm. I think you were meaning "hidden" world of the fey under our very nose. Otherwise, please explain.
4. Explain the bear in more detail too please. What's the deal-e-o? :p
I think that's it for now. I may have more questions later.

I've got the first quarter of my follow-up post to HK's story-line almost done.
I'm going to start putting the story-lines into a single book on my website with credits given appropriately and additional editing performed. Is everyone cool with that?

I'm planning on creating a little about us page for each of the writers. Probably a couple paragraphs or so with a link to the forums, your personal website, and to some of your recent works (appropriate material of course :) ). Nothing to personal, just giving credit where credit is due.

ugh I'm really sorry about my lazyness. I've been busy with school and I haven't really had the desire to write anything lately. I'll try and get something done this week however.

Sorry it has taken me so long to follow up on my story. In fact, Mathias is reprimanding me about that because he can't finish the story unless I get my butt moving and post more. So I hope people enjoy.

HK and Wolflord. I skimmed the posts real quick and came to the conclusion that your characters probably leveled up half way through the posts. We'll assume the same class this time. After the final posts of this adventure, your characters will be level 3. Great job my good friends. :)

HK and Wolflord, the final posts of THIS adventure is coming up. This story arc was planned for three adventures for each of the three characters. I plan to take the characters from 1st level to 9th level.
At the end of each adventure there is a cross over for a couple posts and then the next adventure starts. It's kinda important that the plot lines stay somewhat close as the story's intertwine. I'll kick Kelene and I into gear on that end.
After that, we'll see what the response is. Who is willing to continue for these three adventures? If not, the end of the adventure is coming up and is as good as anytime to make a graceful exit. Let me know what you want to happen with the characters afterward. Should I run the character as an NPC, kill 'em off, etc.?

Christmas break is coming up. I'm spending a lot of time updating my website based on suggestions I've received. I'm also working with Kelene on playing catch up with the stories. Feel free to give story suggestions to pump my thinking juices.
