seems we can't any router to work, we bought awhole new one, and sending off our old one. one night it just quite working. it's not the modem's fault. that works fine, obviously. but we can't get any router to work. it turns on, it lights up. everything. but zilch, nadda, zip, nothing works.

anyone know anything about routers? we've contacted both companys, and our isp. starting to piss us off little, this topic is on it's way to Rants sooner or later.:x

well im not sure what you mean by it "it does not work". Are you not getting Internet connection? Is it that your computers are not seeing each other on the network?

Try logging into your routers admin panel (normally http://192.168.1.1 ). Make sure all the settings are to your liking.

Have you tried resetting everything in exact order? Shut down your computer, unplug your modem, unplug your router. Wait 1 minute, then plug in your modem first, then wait another minute, then plug in your router, wait another minute and then boot up your pc. If you reboot your router or modem in any other order it could cause them to not communicate correctly.

Another common problem with routers is the firewall you're using on your computer. If you're using a router it'll block pretty much every port your firewall normally blocks automatically.. so you have to set your firewall to access the internet as a trusted zone so they won't conflict.

yeah, thats what, Lynsys, and Netgear said, we did each of those. the reseting thing, like 6 times. we turned off our firewall and nothing. but we had it on before, and it was working since last october.

yeah, did that like 3 times too. it's all Linksys tells you to do >_> eventually they said it was they're router. so we got a back up router, and sent off the linksys. but the back up router is from netgear, so it's awhole other router, and still won't work. we can sign on useing our modem only. but when we connect the router. it won't sign on.

it's cable, through cox communications. a guy from geek squad came out to day(no charge too)and said the router wasen't even turning one, (though it did the other day) we're exchangeing it, and geting a new one. so we'll see how things go from there.
