Well, I decided to take my first real venture into GIMP imag editing. I've only ever use paint xD.
Anyway, I played around in gimp a little while and made this:

*however, it just doesn't look right. What is it missing?

there doesn't seem to be a focal point....maybe if you made the name stand out?....it fades into the background and is really hard to read....

I agree, you need to have one thing that pops out, catches your attention. Otherwise your eyes just wander all over it without really taking it in.

Ah, got it.
I abandoned the graveyard though, too many things going on in the background.

Your backgrounds are a little to chaotic for me. They distract intirely from everything else in the sig. Try picking a nice color, or something with a lot less going on.
