What is Escaflowne? I think I remember it being on Fox Kids. Seemed kinda stupid back then, IMO.

The commercial for the movie is making me want to watch it, especially the song that goes on in the commercial. :P

Thats seriously no reason to sell back a DVD just because it didn't end the way you'd like it too, especially when the movie ended perfectly fine (you would not like the Escaflowne series ending either).

Escaflowne is a really good series. In fact one of my top four favorites of all time. Definately a must see for most fans of its genre type. However, I'd suggest not buying the DVDs if you're sure that you won't enjoy the series for what it's worth. Borrow it from a friend and watch it and if you like it then buy it. It's always a waste to buy DVD's and then sell them back.

The movie. Dont get me wrong i loved the movie but not the ending honestly.
I mean it was built on so much hype the music, the character expression the smack talk. Vaugh Vulcan one on one thats what was needed not some damn Humanoid lion coming in and stabbing Vulcan out of the blue.... honestly where the F**ck did he come from? Just came with a poetic sentence and killed Vulcan with a knife -.-. A damn dagger killed a pwnage fighter. That was a major disappointment and in my anger i sold rhe movie

Still no reason to sell it in my opinion. As I said the movie ended perfectly though I must admit I to was a little disappointed with the ending. Also it's Van and Folken.

How did it in Perfectly? It had no real Final Battle just bam. I mean the final scene leading up to the final battle was the Shitz but........

Seriously watch the anime and you'll understand. The ending fits perfectly just like the ending to the series. For its genre, as I said, it ended how it was supposed to. What? You wanted Van to kill Folken. I doubt Van could of seeing as how Folken is the better fighter.

I Know Van cant but it looked so sweet to see them about to face off. Also tell me in spoiler tags how it was worth it? The ending and series.

I can tell you all I want but you still won't understand. It's better for you to see the ending to the series then rewatch the movie. Even if the movie is set in an alternate universe (of sorts) it still follows the series pretty well. Form your own opinions, thats what your supposed to do.

Remember as much as I tell you something your not gonna buy it. We've seen this happen pertaining to Gundam. Just find a way to see the series and form your own opinion. As I said it was my opinion that the movie ended perfectly though I was still somewhat disappointed in it. Same goes for the series. Sadly for the genre that Escaflowne falls in those endings are about as good as they'll get.

i meant to reply to this topic yesterday, but i forgot.

Escaflowne is one of my favorite animes! the plot, concepts, enemies, scientific theories, etc. are all wonderfully pulled off. the series is great and compelling.. but.. i didn't like the movie. o_o; the animation quality is completely different from the series and the plot didn't do much for me. the end result is the same with the series, but the movie doesn't do Van justice. he seems like a secondary character without much depth.

btw, as strider was saying, for anyone that doesn't know, Escaflowne the series and Escaflowne the movie are two seperate animes. the movie is not a continuation of the series. it is basically an alternate version of the entire series wrapped up into one 1 1/2 hour movie. but because of the lack of character information in the movie, its highly recommended that you watch the series first so you'll know who is who.

the ending of escaflowne is a bit disappointing because you don't get what you expected in the end.. i too, was disappointed. but hey, i'm glad it ended that way. the first time i watched escaflowne, i couldn't predict anything that was going to happen. hell, consider dilandau's origins, did anyone see that coming? O_O

btw, in regards to endings, does van and hitomi's departure remind anyone else of yuna and tidus from FFX?

heres a link to the official escaflowne movie website for anyone interested:

Heh, reminds me too much of FFX's departure scene.

As for Dilandau's origins I had a sneaky suspicion (sp? I know I can't spell) they would go that way but I don't know why. I was still surprised to find out about it though (I'm hardly ever right when it comes to guessing something).

Are you tlking about the lion? And yes it was so FFX.

Strider Hiryu
September 10th, 2005, 01:49 PM
Dilandau is the freak with white hair who pilots the red Guymelef. Since the movie is different then the series his origins are different. Sledge is hinting at the series origin.

Frankly I don't remember the name of the Lion-man. Never payed close enough attention to the movie to catch it (though he has the same name in the series I never caught it there also).

The movie wasnt too bad. I liked it but it reminds me way to much of X. The white and black wings, powers, and dragon names.

He was dulindau he Freaking Pwns!!!!! I mean honestly he was CRAZY!!!
You see no one even remembers the lions name. Thats how insignificant he is and they let him kill Folken......
One more thing just cause i sold the Dvd it doesn t mean dont still own it. I recorded on VHS before i sold it. And AS edited again......

Strider Hiryu
September 11th, 2005, 10:22 AM
He wasn't insignificant. He played a pretty major role in the film and the series. You can't expect us to remember the names of every character in a series. Heck I don't even remember the names of the twins that served Folken in the series (they were the twin cat chicks singing in the bar in the movie version).

Every character, no matter how small their role in a series, plays a significant role to the plot of a series and or movie. The Lion dude was there for a reason and he played out his reason perfectly and after rewatching the ending last night on AS (kinda stumbled upon it since I didn't know AS was showing it) I again come to the conclusion that the ending fit perfectly.

I liked the movie, even though I had no idea who some of the people were. XP

Escaflowne looked awsome, but you didn't even get to see him alot, only at the begining and near the end. IMO, it was kinda a dumb ending, I was expecting like a battle with Escaflowne and thought Volken might have an armor too.

Escalfowne reminds me of the silver Dragoon from Legend of Dragoon. XD

Strider Hiryu

Watch the series, plenty of Escaflowne action in there. And for the last time people its Folken.

Folken doesn't even have a Guymelef in the series. He's a tactician and a scientist not a fighter.

Kuwabara
September 12th, 2005, 12:54 PM
In the movie he seems a fighter two me. Like when he pwned Dulindau when he tried to betray Folken.

Strider Hiryu
September 12th, 2005, 01:04 PM
He is trained to fight yes. Requirement to become King. However he's more of a tactician and in the movie, as stated, it's an alternate universe. Those powers he has there do not exist in the series. Thats about the only thing he uses in the movie to constitute for fighting.

About the only thing you see him use in the series is a sword and thats at the end when he **insert spoiler here**. Otherwise he does not fight at all. He sends out others to do it (like Dilandau and the twin cat chicks (whom I still can't remember the names too)).

like strider was saying, i think every episode in the series had some sort of battle involving escaflowne. excellent fight scenes. ^_^ and the guymelefs in the series were awesome too. cat chicks.. mmm..

Strider Hiryu
September 12th, 2005, 10:40 PM
Hey now Sledge, no drooling over the cat girls (even if they are extremely hot). Lady might get jealous.

Theres a few eps in the series that don't have fights but the best fights in the series don't take place till toward the end (especially those last few bouts with Dilandau and the emergence of Black Escaflowne).

Dangit, all this talk is making me want to watch the series again. Guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend if Anime Club business doesn't keep me busy.

That movie was very good, I'd give it a 7/10, I thought that the ending was actually pretty good, as far as that lion persons revenge, however it would have been nice if there was a fight before that.

I have the entire series subbed on VHS. It's rather good when it's not butchered. The movie didn't impress me all that much. Escaflowne is a very special series to me because Hitomi reads tarot and douses with a pendulum just as I do. This series is among the largest contributors to my enthusiasm regarding my tarot skills. I probably wouldn't have explored the art at such a young age without that series giving me the inspirational spur I needed.

Dilandau's dog pal's name is Jajuka ^_^

Just finished watching the entire series and it was 'wow'. It didn't impress me that much at the start, but the build-up was superb, music - amazing and with a few surprises thrown in it was a winner for me. Good closure to the series ...

I loved the last battle between Alan and Van, great flow with both guyamelf cloaks moving in slow motion kinda gave me goosebumps hehe ... ofcourse Folken was the perfect brother in character like Sesshomaru or Vegeta, unsung in a way ... new concept - 'Fate Alteration' ... hah and whenever Alan entered battle, he'd fall down in that pose with his sword straight, looked kickass ... and what was interesting was that I feel like asking for more, like I did for Full Metal Alchemist.

Any idea where I can pick up the soundtrack and the series ? ^_^

animenation sells both:
http://www.animenation.com/av-80154.html (search for escaflowne)

and $45 for the official boxset! looks like bandai is starting to compete in boxset prices too.

and don't forget the fansubs forum if you're looking for downloads. :-p

If you want them legally well theres plenty of online stores that sell them. If I'm not mistaken animecornerstore.com carries them as probably most other anime oriented shopping sites.

Now illegally is different however I won't be posting such information (pm me if you want the sites)

7 $ on the first item with the minimum weight sorta makes me wonder, for the box set it'll multiple almost threefold and / or more even, which's gonna make it really expensive, unaffordable. Earning in rupees is the doom for me. Anime is this expensive always ? I mean, there's FB that's for 90 $ >_< and surprisingly Advent is going for half the price of the entire series of Escaflowne.

Sledgstone
May 4th, 2006, 10:36 PM
the price for that escaflowne set is actually cheap compared to traditional boxsets. i remember fushigi yugi season 1 and 2 costed $200 a piece. x_x; and all the inuyasha dvds are rediculous. $25 a disk = 3 episodes. 167 episodes = 55 disks = $1,375.00 = fuck that.

and thats why they sell stuff like this:

Ohhhh man, the box set's really within my reach, but the shipping's a worry >_> ... but the soundtrack's over 30 bucks haha. dang ! that's expensive, Sledge and I'm considering getting that wallet X'D
