My friend came down from CANADA recently and I showed him a couple of ,y downloaded anime at home, etc etc. He went back and hit me an email saying he would look for dvd's for me (even though I don't even have a Dvd player ^_^;).
So I need recommendations on Anime Movies, which possibly wouldn't be as kult as to be not found in a Canadian store ^_^
I think I'll be telling him to get me the first three Inu Yasha movies, I'm not sure whether the fourth one is out or not.
Any other recommendations  ?

Inuyasha movie 3 hasn't been released in English yet and movie 4 is not on dvd yet
a lot of the movies I watch are tied in w/ a series but...
Cowboy Bebop movie was tight
Ninja Scroll and Kite are sorta cultish I guess :look:

Akira, it's a old school classic that every Anime lover should see.
Inuyasha Movies are good.
Evangilon is a definate.
Cowboy Bebop the movie kicked some ass, even people who don't like anime liked it.
Ghost in a Shell 1, the second one was horrible in my opinion.

Wow, cool recommendations guys ^_^ ....
As far as Akira's concerned, I've just heard a lot about this series and would love to finally see it, you know.
I have 13 episodes of Ninja Scroll, but yeah, I agree about it being kult-ish because not many people I talk to know of the series in the first place.
What's Evangilon, Tsukihime, Now and then here and there and Rahxephon about ?
And I love action, but if there are some outstanding comedy/romance movies out there, you know like the Chobits' series, do tell.

Chobits was good....wait a minute...did you just ask what Evangilon is!?O_O Holy mother f'n shit...okee go out right now and buy like...the first 4 DVD's. It's only one of the greatest most renoud Anime's of all time.

tenchi muyo in love movie 1. if you are fan of tenchi series, this is a must see. you'll definitely find romance and comedy in there.
Godgrave
January 19th, 2005, 01:07 AM
I haven't seen the Tenchi series yet though, so I wonder if I'll understand the movie, but that'll be the case for any sort of recommendation I haven't heard of. So I'll give it a shot ^_^
Only one thing, could you also list out the movie titles with the movie recommendation -_-;, Like Inu Yasha - Love that transcends Time. I ask of this because I don't know most of the anime you guys suggest, and this would really make it easier.
Hell_Cat, yup I haven't seen the series at all. My anime viewing's been restricted only by circumstance - India didn't have anything but Cartoon Network which showed Tom n Jerry and Space Ghost. Although, about Evangilon and the first 4 dvd's, are you referring to episodes ? If not, could you give me the movie titles to it ^_^ because I can't find them.
One more thing, how expensive do you think each movie would be ^_^:?

My friend's in Mississaga (spelling?) and I have another in Toronto, can't pin-point where they live exactly, but I can find out. Do you know of particular stores where the movies Hell_Cat listed would be easily available ???
It would be easier for my friend, who knows nothing about anime, to get the titles that way :jiggle:

Media Play usually has a decent selection of anime/ manga.
Have ya considered just orderin stuff off the net Double G?

I could order online as well Lady, but would it cost a lot ?
I have Paypal and the other worry would be Shipping Costs and/or whether they could ship it safely to India.
I remember a website Sledge had posted this once, which had box-sets for some anime. If there's a website where those listed movies are available and/or series too, post away

Yeah it was Lady, but it was really good, just keep a box of tissues handy...I cried anyway.

On a side-note, where do you guys buy your anime from ? And how's the selection over there ? Maybe I could order from there too next time around, online that is.

we generally purchase our anime online from http://www.rightstuf.com/ or (HKs) http://www.animeniacs.com/
the latter accepts paypal and i think they both offer international shipping.

Cool !! I'll email this as well .... thanks man ^_^
Those're cool website Sledge, but a little confusing when it comes to titles and other stuff because I'm not too anime savvy with the basic terms. But, I loved ANIMEniacs for the reason that they've got soundtracks ! I'm sick of downloading half-assed ones ....
Sledgstone
January 23rd, 2005, 11:18 AM
heres another site we've purchased from before, and they have soundtracks too:
http://www.discountanimedvd.com/sound_track.asp
we usually buy wallscrolls from discountanimedvd because their selection is usually better.

I'm stuck in the mid-west state of Kansas, and there is nothing here. Like Lady and Sledge, I buy mine online mostly, but every now and then I hit up Best Buy, but they're really expensive on most of their stuff, plus their selection is about half the size it used to be.
Godgrave
January 25th, 2005, 12:15 AM
That's the first time I've heard of a "Wallscroll" and actually seen one ^_^, that's a pretty good website, a little pricey but I could afford it when I start working for sure :p
But I'm glad there's a good collection of soundtracks on the site, I may have to give up buying my metal cd's for a while *tears*
I told me pal to go to HMV, Best Buy, Sunrise, and Future Shop (from what Hydra posted) and I'm waiting for his response.

If you ever have a convention near you, go to it! I bought both Hellsing Soundtracks, both Wolf's Rain Soundtracks, and both Witch Hunter Robin Soundtracks and only paid $15 for all six.
Godgrave
January 26th, 2005, 11:55 AM
To go for the nearest convention, I'd have to literally fly to another country ^_^ heh. But, conventions are good and I've heard very little of them. I'm guessing it's more like a sale or something ? Wolf's Rain had a good theme ... soundtracks I'm looking for are Inu Yasha, Samurai X, e'X-D, Naruto, Cyberooq, Get Backers, Silent Mobius ... I could go on with a huge list heh.
But that's an awesome deal you got there Hell_Cat

I thought so too, yeah I already had the Inuyasha Soundtracks, they're really good too. Hellsing's was a bit odd, and took me awhile to get used too. It's like a cross between Jazz and J-Pop, but it's cool none the less. ;)

I've always wanted to go to Otakucon, unfortunatly I'd have to fly to get there lol. I did get to attend Conneticon last summer, I was in CT anyway staying with my aunt for the summer, and it was only 30min away. I had a total and complete blast. I also got to meet a lot of awsome people, like the creator of VGCats, he even drew me a personal comic lol
Godgrave
January 27th, 2005, 02:59 PM
Otakon's a convention for all sorts of anime ? So what does happen once you get there ? Are there special screenings of anime, sales of dvd's/ soundtracks and all that sort ? I've seen a couple of people on websites dress like their favorite anime characters ^_^ too. Are you guys gonna be doing that Sledge ?

They usually have some more around the summer time down there.
Yeah, I took lost of pictures of the awsome cosplayers, they even act out some of the scenes lol. They have screenings, games, sales, and so much more. More so, it's just getting together with other anime lovers and talking about the shows you love.

Don't even bother getting it. It's nothing more then an over drawn recap episode. I was glad I only rented it. End of Evengelion was cool but I hated the ending. *shoots GAINAX for making crappy endings.*
Back on topic:
Spriggan was good.
Akira is a must.
Spirited was good.
Castle in the Sky was good too.

Thanks guys ! My mum's pal's son is coming down this Tuesday from Can and he's already bought Appleseed without even asking me :p ... which's good cos it's in your lists ! I'll ask him other titles ... only problem I forsee is the price since if I know him, he'll pick them up from HMV. I've checked HMV's online store out and it'll drill a hole in pocket.

Of course...*sigh*...Japanesse people are so not stupid. They know they're the only we can even get anime, and the few stores that carry it in the US know this too, so what do we do? PRICE GOUGE!!!
Godgrave
February 4th, 2006, 12:39 AM
If nobody buys, prices will come down automatically. But the economy of your countries is such that your purchasing power is really high, which allows you to buy things even if they're a lil expensive. Cool ... ^_^
